I was hoping you were going to go through the Panama Canal 😟 I guess that won’t be happening now as you’ll not really have the range if there’s now wind, unless you start the generator which defeats the whole object. I’m really interested to hear about damage mitigation for the motors in the event of a lightning strike, something i always felt made electric propulsion unsuitable for vessels at sea.
That’s awesome! Not surprising, but awesome. So does this mean that you guys will build your own hull? If so, will it be a high performance carbon fibre plus fibreglass construction? Will you have sufficient solar panels plus batteries to run the motor without the need for diesel? Will you be regenerating electricity from both the water movement and air movement? Do you want a partner for the hull building (McConnaghy - I suggest you ring these guys). Most important - are you designing a boat for yourselves only, or will you become a manufacturer? Do you have a target price point in mind? When is your target date for the prototype? And for production? I.E. - When should I start saving??????????????? Oh - Lenny is so funny - what a great little dude!
Amazing work you two!
This is what I am talking about, and the reason I have been working so hard to get my own Yacht. This looks so amazing. I had a question for you or any followers, I am looking into security for my vessel and found www.gostglobal.com/ and they look great, but are there others you suggest or do you like gost? Thanks in advance.
Riley how long can you hold your breath for
That´s really good news! :)
Emissions free vessel project and you announce it on a spear fishing trip. If you want to be emission free, the first and most important thing to start with is to become vegan!!
How cool is that awesomeness
I’m sorry to bother you people - the song in the beginning - yeah I know it’s in the description but I can’t find the song.. anybody who can help me - much love from Denmark 🇩🇰
Thats awesome news guys! You might want to check out the spirit yachts 44E. The yacht is emissions free and even has PV panels in its sails. How cool is that?
If you don't mind me asking, how did yall afford a 1m dollar sailboat for this? I've been interested in doing this for a long time but It seems out of reach, these sailboats are way more expensive than my cigarette boat.
I just watched the video where you said that you guys are going electric, wow this is amazing and I really look forward to watching you guys on your new boat!😉
Incredible guys! Beyond exciting! 😍
Happy for the news which should keep you going for another six years, my best wishes and prayers for La Vagabond crew, love your vids
👍
Amazing news can't wait to see your plans turn into reality
congratulations to you both, you are helping pave the way for the world to follow. pretty amazing and couldnt be happier it is you to do it, thank you.
Congratulations! Please don't end up with black sails, however. It will interfere with/detract from the overall aesthetic of your shows.
Always support and love you guys but way way to many commercials wow it’s every few seconds it seems I lose interest after to many of them. Sending you love tho..
Amazing.
Wow ! This is amazing !!
Lenny is literally the cutest baby ever
Love your videos guys! Thank you for allowing some to forget about the snow 💛
lennie is starting to look more and more like his mommy 😁
Now you just need to partner with a company like eFoy, and there should be no more use for fossil fuel propulsion. I am proud to know you are making an effort in installing Oceanvolt. However, you might want to plan that installation together with a systems engineer not associated with Oceanvolt. Why? You might wonder. The reason has to do with things like propulsion battery bank size, isolation transformers, balanced loads, house loads, efficient DC to DC conversion, etc. For me the biggest problem with going from an engine to a motor is hot water. Many marine hot water tanks use heat from the Diesel engines to heat water. Do you turn on the generator to heat water or do you use 10-kWh from the batteries to heat water? Ideally there would be a mini heat pump hot water tank using only 3-kWh. Oceanvolt is tangentially interested in solving some of these issues for you as you are about to discover. There is nothing wrong with Oceanvolt products as far as I can tell, but they are a vessel propulsion company that uses electricity to do it, and though they have solved some of these issues, there are other remaining issues still without an optimal approach through no fault of their own. Some of the system integrators have good approaches to some of these issues, but there are not that many with a truly universal vision of how to integrate and install such systems, and on top of this you will need good tradesmen with the actual installation. There are many installers, but there are few OCD electrical installers able to make it look beyond neat and to make it safe. Take a look at a around 0:50: noworld.info/video/video/toCnZ81rsMPRxKc.html
@jfbeam hello. Today you can cook on an electric boat with an electric induction stove and an electrical convection oven. Moreover, it should be possible to use a heat pump hot water tank to provide hot water. The problem in my opinion is not so much a problem of energy as it is one of space. Why would they want to do this? Think of the many places they have travelled. Gas and Diesel are not always easy to obtain, and they are subject to local island fossil fuel prices. From an energy perspective, if they will be installing two Oceanvolt motors, when under sail they should easily regain over 2-kWh every hour under light wind condition (7.5-knots per hour). This means that if they have sufficient battery storage space that they could obtain just from sailing at least 48-kWh per day with light winds, and with winds around 10-knots per hour they could be storing around 5-kWh per hour. Take a look at the hydrogeneration chart at the bottom of this page: oceanvolt.com/twin-saildrive-15/ Storing 48-kWh requires a larger battery bank than the one proposed by Oceanvolt; however, when under anchor, it will provide sufficient house load energy for several days. A three kW-solar system should have no problem in topping it off on a daily basis. A 48-kWh battery storage system would work both for house loads and propulsion. However, boats have many devices on 12-volts. Therefore, one idea would be to have a large 48-battery bank for propulsion and AC house loads, and for devices requiring 12-volts a DC to DC converter from the main battery bank could do this. Moreover, some of these 12-volt systems require sort of a UPS system; therefore, a second 12-volt battery bank could do this. The more interesting question would be how much energy would they need to move forward at 4-knots per hour? This might provide some further information on how large a battery bank they might need both for house loads and for propulsion when there is no wind. I believe about 33% of the time there is no wind, and there are area and times of the year where and when this is more pronounced. Suppose, they require 4-kWh to move forward at 4-knots for 30-hours in a cloudy climate with no wind. This means they would require 120 kWh of energy. Suppose they use 20-kWh for house loads including hot water, and they use 15-kWh for 12-volt devices. They would require 155-kWh for these 30-hours. A 3-kW solar system will provide a maximum of 12-kWh per day. Suppose the solar system manages to produce 0-kWh during these 30-hours. Where are they going to obtain energy? They could use a DC generator able to keep the batteries topped off directly without an inverter. If they have a 48-kWh battery, they can draw go as low as a 20% DOD and as high as 90%. This provides a working range of 70% from the 48-kWh battery bank. This is 33.6-kWh. At 4-kWh for propulsion they will need restarting the DC generator every 8-hours. However, they, also, have about 1.2-kWh each hour for house loads and 12-volt devices. This means restarting the generator every 7-hours. This would be the most difficult 30-hours from an energy perspective that I would expect. The rest of the time they can sail and regenerate energy, and while under anchor the solar system should keep up with daily energy demands. Many of the energy hungry devices for 12-volts would be shutoff while under anchor.
Heat is a big issue for "off grid" systems. There's nothing more off grid than a boat. I applaud their goal of _zero_ emissions, but I'd still want gas for cooking and heat. (it's not like they're going to put a pellet furnace on the boat.)
Love protects.
I had no idea oceanvolt was a Finnish company..! Yay motherland!
Congrats, well deserved!
i hate that ppl get paid to do this kinda shit while most of the people that watch are people that cant afford to go to these places
Where are they? Azores?
I’m so so flipping excited for you ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Love the new intro with grown up Lenny 😭 So excited for you guys and to follow along!
What fantastic news!!😂✨🤩⛵️
Love watching your son. He is so cute and smart
Congratulations, you guys! Oceanvolt and Doyle Sails are going to do so much to help you in the quest for zero-emissions vessel quest! I'm so looking forward to your future adventures and the progress and install videos I hope you will share! Stay safe out there!
❤️🥰
@ 9:49 sounds like Speech text robot
I would have hoped out your sponsor wouldn't have cheaped out on air conditioning from day one.....
The lifestyle isn't as inaccessible as you might think. Read How To Buy A Boat For The Liveaboard Lifestyle.
Everyone CAN make a difference !!! WE can turn this around... one planet Sending you my love and best wishes on your drive to look after our planet. Go Team SLV
10:52 That investment round, i couldnt find anything about it. Can someone help me out here?
Americas Cup is about new designs & materials - costs not such a big problem. You guys seem to be about new ways of sailing within a budget which will surely lead to improved systems generally. Good to see companies getting on board. Go for it.
So glad to see you break a pair of OceanVolt engines for totally self sustained sailing.....cruising with almost zero footprint... congrats‼️‼️‼️great job of these videos
These companies now a good thing when they see one. Congrats and good luck La Vagabonde.
My favorite moment on you tube is catching up with you guys. Can’t tell you how it feels to hear the best news of all...it’s going to make it even more special to witness the partnerships you’ve just been granted with in making La vagabonde the boat that will leave mo traces in her passages but inspirations and more adventures...keep on doing the good work. Looking out for you guys.
You deserve this!!!!!!
Wow such exciting partnerships you guys have.
Gonna need a backup generator. The electrics on yer boat, especially the water maker will suck the batteries down fast. And if you want to motor any distance at all, you will need a ton of batteries. which will weigh the boat down,
I'm still curious as to why we never got hard data from the Oceanvolt Gunboat 55. The lack of that information makes me think that the numbers had to be way less than estimated. But I am really curious. It also still never make sense to me to turn your engine prop into a Regen. You need a dedicated regen prop in the design. It could even lift out of the water when not in use. Complex topic. I'll be looking forward to more.
Super excited for you guys to get sponsored by Oceanvolt and Doyle Sails! Super smart of their marketing people to do this! The exposure they will get is tremendous. I just sent Oceanvolt an email, I'm definitely interested in investing in the company! Love you guys! Keep up the fantastic work! Can't wait to run into you somewhere is this amazing world!
Woohoo Doyle Sails Marblehead Massachusetts!
This is pretty amazing! I started watching you guys when you were in your monohull sailboat and its been pretty awesome to see you and your channel grow to where you are today. I just looked at your subscriber count and omg I had not realized how big you all have become! Its been an awesome journey watching your videos and I hope to continue into the future.
Can’t wait to see you guys post the vid’ on the Oceanvolt retrofit.
The future of La vagabond is very exciting! I think your platform is awesome, I would love to see and hear more about climate change and why you have moved towards renewable energy!! :)
Your next cat? Of course finished out with your desired propulsion and sails. noworld.info/video/video/t2OrfcB63NKdypY.html
Lenny's Oedipus complex is showing. He is like 3 now? He won't be jealous for long.. ;-)
I hope that with that change of power you solve your hot water problem too!!!!
OMG!!! How amazing to be partnering up with such progressive marine companies!!! I am absolutely STOKED TO WATCH THE MAGIC UNFOLD❤️ So very Happy for you guys! CHEERS!
After watching everything on NOworld and Patreon that you two have accomplished in the last 6 years and we're all in for more excitement!!! Thank you 2 (and everyone that has helped along the way) SO very much! Looking forward to another 6 years of adventure... and watching Lenny grow!! LOVE you 2 and smooth sailing in the future.

Awesome news! Congrats guy's. I love the motto of the company "To make the planet better for our kid's than the way we got it!"
Amazing news, good luck 👍 👏
Some say andrè ate peanut butter that night.
The technology on a boat is still in its infancy but using salt water to make hydrogen fuel is the real solution www.google.com/amp/s/www.engadget.com/amp/2019-10-08-energy-observer-solar-hydrogen-power-boat.html
Yeah! Brilliant with the electric propulsion. Thank you for leading the way. Let’s leave a better earth than we were given. Agreeing with anyone claiming your videos are better and better. Love the new intro but as a creature of habit, I always have to add “meet Lenny” 🤗
I think its time Lenny needs a mustache like dad!
The video quality is just through the roof!
Go OceanVolt! All the way from freezing Finland, proud Finnish moment right there!!
There's sth about your channel that is so much more uplifting than any other travelling channel I've come across! Thanks for doing it! :)
so do I understand you will be leaving the current boat in the future for this other one?
Congratulations on the new partnerships guys. I lost my breath and had a tear of joy in my eye when your new partners spoke. I'm so happy for you xx
Make way for better things, love the momentum!
Wow!! That's awesome news!! It's gonna be like whole "new" boat! You are worth it guys! Much love from Sweden. 🧡💛💚💙💜

lenny is so adorable
Maintain Velocidad🥰
You guys are rad!
GO an electric Trimiran!! > Neel51?
Paul Rathke? Explain plz. I was under her impression a trimaran is faster? Ergo more performance?
huge drop in performance
First time commenting but I’ve been following you guys for a bit now... love you’re videos. Thank you for sharing you’re adventures!! That is amazing news on your new partnerships. Really excited for you guys and look forward to your next port calls shenanigans!!
Going with Doyle, you won't be sorry... Loads tend to go for the mainstream sailmakers (which are still good) but I just think that a company like Doyle is not to mess with... I have a square top from them and it's a good one.
I'm so so happy of your partnerships! I've never heard of Oceanvolt before though I'm a Finn and as soon as I heard the guy from Oceanvolt speaking English with a Finnish accent my jaw dropped and I was like whaaat is this a Finnish company??? How cool!!
Great ambassadors for planet Earth
I am looking forward to your new videos.
Elayna, you continue to get more and more physically beautiful, my goodness, all due respect to Riley. I love watching the content, but its hard not to notice how extraordinarily beautiful she is. Nuff said.
