STORM headed our way.. Batten down the hatches!

We're here in Madeira where we thought the weather would be a bit better. No big deal, we're at the usually very sheltered and safe port of Quinta do Lorde. Except the winds are coming in straight up the entrance of the marina. And they're really big winds...
...obviously we're at port but there's heaps to do to prepare your floating home for serious winds and more water coming from above us than below. And because we're not having to deal with a storm in the middle of an ocean, we properly get to show you how it's done. Come check it out and maybe there's a bit of sun and sights at the end of the low, fingers crossed.

  • ... Hello. I happily ran across your videos a couple of hours ago. I live in the middle of the USA where the biggest body of water is about 13 miles long with tributaries. You cannot imagine how happy watching you three makes me. It is so beautiful. I miss the water... so this is perfect entertainment for me. What a life you are having. It's great to see how Riley can fix boat engine problems. That's super handy. So.. I will continue to watch for sheer enjoyment. Thank-you so much. The best to all of you. New Baby is coming. How exciting is that with plans for land living while building a new boat. I grew up back East on the water in Crab Town USA & was around sailboats. I miss the water, visible tides and everything that goes with it. So, watching this is a complete joy Again, I wish you the best of everything in life. Take care. Say your prayers. Thank-you! Peace out, Patti d

  • Really enjoyed this one. And thank you for always trying to balance the highlights with the realistic side of things. Covid has bitten us on the bum too - we were meant to be heading to Portugal just before Christmas but we’ve had to adapt our plans. Still working on letting go and embracing the uncertainty 😜

  • A trick to get that gas tube onto the valve. Put the end of the rubber tube into a boiling kettle for a few seconds. Makes it flexible enough to stretch over that valve connection. Easy when you know how and it only takes a couple seconds.

  • I’ve been following you for four years. Your adventures always take my breath away. Your discussions make me smile. Lenny is a joy. I couldn’t have imagined that I would feel so connected to a family sailing the world from my home in Glens Falls, New York. When I found Sailing LaVagabonde in 2016 my life was in disarray. I looked forward to your videos every week. You provided me with a mental getaway from my own hardships. Your relationship, candor and love for each other reminded me that a passionate, loving relationship (something I lost after 26 years of marriage) is most successful with open and honest communication. Additionally, I love the indy music Elayna plays and selects for your videos, and I am always intrigued by the books Riley reads. Keep on keeping on you three (soon to be four) beautiful shining lights! Know that you are loved and appreciated by a 50-something living at the base of the Adirondack Mountains in the USA. -6 degrees farrenheit this morning. Time for a hot tea.

  • Elayna, I wanted to let you know of something I've seen you do a number of times:. A close girlfriend of mine has been very badly injured in a road traffic accident. She had her feet on the dashboard of her partner's car when a child ran out in front of them. They crashed into a parked car, trying to avoid the child, but the airbags went off. This forced her knees into her face so she now has a broken pelvis, two broken ankles and a shattered face, including her nose, her jaw, both cheekbones and one eye socket. I know it's comfortable to put your feet up, I've done it myself, but such serious injuries are the stuff of nightmares. Please be careful....

  • thought you were going to sail to a different anchorage but all i witnessed was that the boat was tied into the slip. did see a bit of a storm then sunny skies, its snowy here but its northeast Ohio , shades of white in the sky clouds and on the ground, blue sky where the clouds aren't birds a plenty, squirrels not so much and maybe an unseen passing deer. you can keep the hot sticky weather- its wonderful up here, not having to wonder if I'll be food as I go shopping for food in the ocean. You do have an amazing existence , its just not for me! Amazing that you can generate such an income doing it. which you are in the right time to do so. 20 years earlier and well you met the sailor sleeping in the inside of his boat he does not have away to capitalize on his existence. I do look forwards to your story still wondering about crime if you are off boat is there a way you lock it down to prevent theft?

I have rode a many of hurricanes, but I swore I would never ride another, Although 6 weeks later we had another hurricane make landfall East of Lake Charles and would you believe we stayed home And took another ride, lol.. Hurricane Laura was the scariest experience ever. You should check out videos of Lake Charles Louisiana, hurricane laura. We are still doing a lot of cleanup and rebuilding all around our city in rural areas. Lots of homes and businesses lossed. As always we shall rebuild.
